'Incel' Violence is a form of extremism. It's time we treated it as a security threat

The article discusses recent incidents of violence attributed to the incel (involuntary celibate) community, advocating for its recognition as a form of extremism. It highlights the rising trend of incel-related violence and presents research findings linking such violence to misogynistic beliefs within the incel community, which views women as manipulative and promiscuous. This ideology aligns incels with other anti-women groups within the alt-right, posing a perceived threat to traditional masculinity. The article calls for government recognition of incels as ideological extremist organizations and urges societal-level interventions akin to strategies employed against religious extremism, cautioning against creating "suspect communities" that may exacerbate feelings of persecution among incels. It advocates for a public health approach to prevent radicalization and violence, emphasizing the importance of understanding and countering misogynistic beliefs to prevent further acts of violence.
