This briefing synthesizes discussions and recommendations from the Third Meeting of the Regional Platform on Gender and Countering and Preventing Violent Extremism (C/PVE) in North Africa. The meeting aimed to establish the Platform as a regional hub for thought leadership on gender and C/PVE. It critically examined state and societal responses to violent extremism in five North African countries, identifying key stakeholders and exploring the successes and failures of existing C/PVE programming and policies.
Key recommendations include promoting multi-stakeholder dialogue, incorporating gender-sensitive approaches in national policies, and fostering partnerships with civil society organizations. The meeting also highlighted the importance of addressing governance issues, radicalization processes, and the challenges posed by returning foreign terrorist fighters. This resource is essential for understanding the intersection of gender and violent extremism in North Africa and for guiding policy and practice in the region.
