Policy framework and national action plan for preventing and countering violent extremism

This framework and action plan, developed by Nigeria’s Office of the National Security Advisor, outlines the country’s commitment to preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE). It emphasizes a human rights-based approach and the central role of communities and families in rehabilitation programs. While primarily gender-blind, the plan recognizes the importance of women’s engagement in P/CVE and commits to scaling upgender-sensitive programs for demobilization, rehabilitation, and counseling.

The document underscores the need for a coordinated approach among various stakeholders and highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of violent extremism. It provides a foundational policy structure for integrating gender and human rights considerations into P/CVE efforts in Nigeria.
