As we mark International Women’s Day (#IWD2026), under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) is pleased to share a new webpage highlighting how this year’s theme is relevant to our mandate and underscoring the importance of advancing gender-responsive, human-rights-based approaches to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism (CT/PCVE).
This page also includes a joint video statement by Mr. Alexandre Zouev, Acting Under-Secretary-General of UNOCT, and Ms. Natalia Gherman, Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), connecting this year’s theme to what our entities do in CT/PCVE space.
The webpage also features several stories with examples of how UNOCT programmes advance gender-responsive approaches and promotes women’s full, equal, and meaningful participation in CT/PCVE efforts.
On this International Women’s Day, UNOCT reaffirms its commitment to placing gender equality and human rights at the center of counter-terrorism efforts.
